He continues to smile in the face of life’s challenges
“When I was young, I always wanted everything to go well and for everyone to be happy. If something bad was going on I would say, ‘Don’t forget to smile. Everything is going to be OK.’
“When I would run away from my biological mom’s place to go to my grandparents’ house, I was always afraid of getting beat up or shot or kidnapped. It was a pretty rough neighborhood. All the time I kept thinking to myself, ‘Don’t forget to smile. It’s going to be OK.’ I know it sounds silly, but it helped.
“I had this shirt made last year. The blue lettering is for colon cancer awareness in honor of my mom. The paw print is for my dog, Lucy, who has been with me since she was a puppy. But it really represents the loved ones we all want to keep close to our hearts. It’s a reminder that in the craziest moments of life, they’ll be there for you. So you’re never really alone.”
