Nice customers help make this waiter’s day

Garrett Barton on Lee College campus

“I’ve been a waiter at a few places. It’s not the most glamorous job in the world, but I like it. A lot of it is about your interactions with the customers. They can be good people or they can be really nasty sometimes. You have to be prepared to deal with both.

“If I get a nice customer, it makes me happy. It makes my day a little better. If I get a mean person — someone who is inpatient or bossy or just plain rude — it sort of ruins my day.

“But you can make decent money, especially with tips. I think my biggest tip was near the holidays once when a regular came in with her family. They left me $50. That was pretty cool.”
