Nursing student determined to set good example

Tria Hodge pushes herself because she can’t stand to fail.

“This isn’t my first time trying to complete the RN program. I dropped out three times. It was a bunch of different things. Dealing with my kids, jobs, babysitters, and the back and forth with school, trying to make it all work. Every single mother’s struggle.

“But I hate failing. I can’t stand to fail. So this is my fourth time, and I’ve progressed way more. My kids are 25, 22 and 18. Now that they’re grown, I can concentrate more on me. And I push myself more. Even when I don’t feel like getting up out of bed and coming to school, I make myself do it.

“I use my grandkids as motivation, too. I don’t want them to see me fail. I don’t want them to think that’s the route to go.

“You’re going to fail at times. That’s life. But you can’t just give in. You’ve got to keep on pushing.”
