Years later, football players ‘still call me coach’
As a youth football coach, “You teach them the game, good sportsmanship and the values of football.”
“When my son and his friends were young, I began coaching them in football. I had them in the NFL flag league and on up through the Optimists program.
“Back then, they were just learning how to catch, run and run plays, just basic stuff. Now, a number of them are seniors on the Sterling varsity.
“It’s really neat to see how far they’ve come. To see them now, and think of when I coached them when they were about 3 feet tall, it’s real rewarding. They’ve come a long way. And they still call me coach.”
