‘Professional student’ never stops learning

Now he’s studying to become a substance abuse counselor.
“I’m a professional student. I’m 61, and I never quit learning. I’m kind of semiretired now. But instead of sitting around doing nothing, when it’s time for me to learn something and I can’t get it out of my mind, I just do it.
“I started college after high school and then pretty much dropped out. Then, back in 1991, I got run over by a drunk. It took me totally out of the construction field. They said, ‘You’re a candidate for disability.’ I went, ‘Nope.’ My body was beat up but my mind wasn’t.
“Texas Rehab did exactly what I asked them to do. They gave me a temporary disability so I could get through school. I got an associate’s degree in autocad. That time around, it was completely free. Everything was paid for. I got lucky.”
