School security manager role was plenty stressful

She fondly recalls serving as a crossing guard for 11 years.

“I always wanted to be a nurse, but one thing led to another and I ended up having a career in law enforcement. I started out as a crossing guard and wound up retiring as security manager for the school district. My number one concern was the safety and security of the students and staff.

“It was a stressful job with a lot of politics involved. In fact, when I finally left it was because someone had brought a grievance against me. I was told that I had to use a certain police officer, but I chose not to and they fought me on it. I felt justified in my decision and wasn’t going to change my mind.

“Since I had my pension all lined up, I decided that was the perfect time to leave. And that’s what I did.”
