Father dies before he can see him one last time
“I had just gotten my passport and asked my mother to find my father, to let him know I was on my way to the Philippines to visit him. The last time I saw him, I was 5½.
“My mother had married a U.S. service member who adopted me, and we ended up in Florida. So I had been separated from my real father for 38 years. Then my mother told me that he had passed away. It was an aneurysm.
“I knew it was time to go back home and get reacquainted with my older brothers and sister. They told me my father’s last words were basically, ‘Find your brother and keep in touch with him.’ Now we’re all pretty close. We plan on going again this year.”
