He learns how to lead in the National Guard
“I just graduated with a degree in history with a teaching certificate, as well as a minor in military science because I did the ROTC program. I want to teach at high school and then move on to get a master’s so I can teach college level, while simultaneously staying in the National Guard.
“The Guard gave me an opportunity to learn how to lead, and I liked it. The training definitely changes you a lot. I’m certainly not the same person I was in high school. I was a bit more loud, brash and naïve back then. I’ve gotten a lot more disciplined since I joined the military, and I’m proud of that. It’s made me a better person, I think.
“Looking at it in the long run, it was one of the best decisions I’ve made.”
