Breast cancer survivor learning to forgive

“I’m proud to be a breast cancer survivor. I learned that there’s life after a critical illness like this, and you can be a testimony to other people who are going through the same sorts of struggles. Also, hopefully, this experience has made me a better person, made me a more compassionate person.”

What do you mean by that?
“Today I focus on being more positive, being kinder and sweeter, because I was so hard for so long. Not from the cancer, but from relationships and other things that happened in my life.

“When you’re raised by an abusive stepfather, go through relationships with people who use drugs and you don’t, and people are stealing from you and things like that … Just getting over that, just cleansing myself from it all and forgiving. It’s not that you’re going to forget, but you can forgive.”
