‘I told her I intend to get married only once’
Xander Roberts immigrated here from England.
“When the early part of 2013 came around, we were hitting it off and went to see a bunch of stuff together. We went to Madrid, to Brussels. At the end of that year, we decided to elope. We went to New Orleans. We went to Voodoo Fest. We watched The Cure. Then we went and got married in jeans and T-shirts.
“I never thought I would end up marrying. I hate to sound like a hipster, but I really didn’t believe in the institution of marriage … that a piece of paper could keep two people bound, especially when divorce rates are so high these days. I told her that I intend to get married only once. I never intend to get divorced. She accepted those terms and we got married.”
