College class was life-changing experience
“There was this class offered for one week. I wasn’t doing well with school so I was like, hey, one week of class, three credits, I’ll take that. It was a Baptist history class. The teacher looked like he was going to be boring, so I brought my phone and sat in the back. Then he got up and said this is going to be a class that will change some of your lives. I thought, whoa, that’s a pretty profound statement, so I’m going to give him 15 minutes of my attention. And it was really good. So I moved from the back to close to the front, and I sat right behind her.”
Eight months of dating ensued before they were engaged for about a year.
“She loves coffee, so I proposed to her at a Starbucks. I was in Boston for the summer and she was in Vancouver, where she lived. We did FaceTime every Saturday. It was the weekend of her birthday, so I told her that I had a special FaceTime planned but I could only do it on Friday. So she headed to the Starbucks and prepared for our FaceTime date. What she didn’t know was that I flew from Boston to Vancouver and was waiting for her right around the corner from the Starbucks.”
“So he came in live for that FacetTime. Needless to say, I was very, very surprised.”
“Which is exactly what I wanted. I certainly wasn’t going to propose to her at college, because that’s just lame.”
