She gives herself an A+ on most important job

Sharon Knoll has three grown sons and is expecting her first grandchild soon.

“I’ve been looking for work, but no one seems to like me. I tried to get on at the new Kroger. I did the application and a little phone interview, then they told me to come in. I was interested in working in the produce department. There were several of us in a room and we each had to name one thing we wanted to sell, so I said cherries because they’re my favorite. I had to pretend to try to sell cherries to the interviewer. But when it was my turn and I was standing in front of all these people in the class, I just froze for a couple of seconds. Then I got all tongue-tied. It was embarrassing. Especially when this other gal got up and was so smooth. I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.

“I was always kind of like the tomboy underdog. I can do pretty good when I try. It’s just that a lot of times, my best hasn’t been good enough. My daddy would say, ‘You know, Sharon, maybe you just weren’t born to work.’

“I’ve always had trouble getting that job, or else something would happen to the job. But you know, I think my most important job was raising my babies. I give myself an A-plus on that. They turned out pretty good.”
