She wants to be the teacher students can confide in
“My parents divorced around the time I was in fifth grade, and I carried some scars with that into high school.
“I just tried to keep busy and not really focus on the pain or anything. But I learned you have to face it at some point. It doesn’t go away. And while you can get guidance — my parents helped me out — you really can’t depend on somebody else to make you happy or find yourself. It’s something you have to achieve on your own.
“That’s one of the reasons I would like to teach high school Spanish. High school can be hard. A lot of kids go through a lot of stuff. I want to be there for them, if they need guidance for things going on outside the classroom. I want my students to be able to approach me about any situation they’re having. If I can help them out, that would be perfect.”
