“There are a lot of hurting people in Baytown. If you just look for it, you see it. Homeless people are the most visible, but there are so many others in need: widows, orphans, abused, passers-through. And something that’s always been nagging at me is why aren’t we doing more for these strangers? Why aren’t we helping the least? There’s a great need for local benevolence. That’s what The Least of These is all about.

“We work with individuals in the community who are already helping on their own or those who would like to help, and we support their efforts by funding micro-grants of $100, $300 and $500.

“Oftentimes people are doing something out of their own pocket or they’re not doing something because they don’t have the money. They have the heart for it, but they don’t have the financial means.

“When we’re fully funded, we’ll be able to offer 10 micro-grants every month. That will help make a difference in people’s lives. It will help make Baytown a better place.”
