‘I had my hand on his chest when he died’

Sign in yard about Daniel Guerra

To help remember her father, Daniel Guerra, Veronica Sanmiguel has this memorial in her front yard.

“My father passed away in February. We miss him so much. He and my mother were married 55 years. We were all really close. It’s just crazy now that he’s not around.

“He had pulmonary fibrosis. He was admitted to the hospital in December, and he was there for three weeks before they sent him home for hospice. The doctor told us we were lucky he lived so long. He should have been dead a long time ago. His lungs were so messed up, we don’t know how he was even walking around. We were all there when he passed away. I had my hand on his chest when he died.

“I don’t ever want to forget about him, so I have an alarm that goes off every Wednesday at 7:40. That’s when he took his last breath.”
