Personal drive can lead students to success

A former newspaper reporter and high school English teacher, David Hainline has been a college professor for more than 20 years.

“I do worry about the future because I think people today tend to be a lot lazier than past generations, probably because so many things have come so easily to them. The only solution is an individual solution.

“I see those people who may not be the best writers, may not be the best students, but they have something in them that assures me they’re going to succeed in some way. Maybe it’s their curiosity or their receptiveness to learning. Maybe it’s just the ability to roll with the punches. Whatever it is, I think that any student of any ethnicity or nationality can probably achieve whatever he or she wants because there are so many other people who don’t have that drive. If you have it, you’re going to go somewhere.”
