This family tree’s branches extend quite far
“Years ago, my son got involved in a relationship with a girl who already had a 15-month-old son. We got attached to this boy, and we could just never let him go. He’s 21 now, and he’s been like our son all these years.
“I mean, we took that kid with us everywhere. He went with us on every vacation. He was in my daughter’s wedding. We helped his mom go through nursing school.
“His mom and dad now are both on public assistance. And unfortunately, he’s gotten involved in drugs and stuff. To see him out there on the streets like that, it just breaks my heart. But we still love him and care about him.”
Her family tree’s branches extend far beyond her husband, and biological children and grandchildren. They include college students, prison parolees and many others who needed a place to stay, food to eat or some other type of assistance.
“We’ve had so many people living with us over the years. I just think of them all as part of our family.”
