Former teacher gets that déjà vu feeling

Paula Groberg taught for 30 years in Baytown and Mont Belvieu.
“As a former teacher, when the back-to-school ads start and I see those supplies in the stores, I get that déjà vu feeling. And when it’s time for the school districts’ convocations, I find myself wishing I were there.
“When I walk into a school, no matter where it is, it’s just sweet memories. It’s like, ‘I need to be here.’ When I’ve subbed, I walk in there and think, ‘I own this place. I belong here.’ I don’t know what it is. I guess it’s a gift because I connect with the kids. It’s like they know me and I want to know them. It’s very comfortable.
“Being a teacher is really one of the most rewarding jobs anyone could have.”
