Construction buddies ‘your biggest asset’

Kenny Evert at garage sale

When he’s not working construction, Kenny Evert can be found tinkering with cars in his garage.

“The toughest part about construction is that you’re working yourself out of a job all the time. You’re always going to a project to finish that project. You know you’re going to lose your job eventually. You know you’re going to get laid off someday soon. Every year or two, you’re looking for a new job.

“The longest gap between work for me was about five months, which was no fun. I learned that you need to make a lot of friends and get a lot of phone numbers. Your construction buddies will help you more than anything. As far as finding new jobs, they’re your biggest asset.”

— Kenny Evert, 38
