Homeless woman: ’embarrassing to ask for money’
“I lost my husband. He died from drinking too much. I couldn’t keep him from drinking. We were married for about 10 years.
“Since he passed away, I don’t have any family here. So I’m kind of by myself again. It’s lonely. Real lonely.
“It’s embarrassing to have to ask for money, but I’ve got to find some kind of way to get some help. I hate to ask because I know other people have to survive, too. And they work. I’m disabled. I’ve got a broken collarbone, and I can’t work anymore.
“I’ve been living in a shelter for about a week. Before that I was staying with friends, but they moved away. At times, I’ve had to sleep on the streets. It gets pretty desperate out here. It gets rough. I’m just hoping to survive, day by day.”
