Future business owner has some ‘sweet’ dreams

Lee College student Garrett Barton could see himself owning a small business one day.

“I think a lot about starting my own business. I have a lot of different ideas that I’d like to try. There’s this saying that in business, you have to fail seven times before you can succeed, or something like that. Obviously, I’m not hoping to fail. But if I do, I’ll be OK with it and just try my hand at something else.

“I’ve read about real estate investing. It might be really cool to own a couple of properties out on the beach. I could vacation year-round and make money off people living there. Or maybe open a bar. Even though I’m just 20, I do like to drink. I’m fascinated with brewing and stuff, so maybe I could open a craft beer bar. That would be sweet.”

What will it take to realize your dreams?
“I mean, I go to class, listen to the lectures, take notes and study those. You can get by on that and do OK. But when I decide to sit down and really read my textbooks, I think that’s when I’ll be in the right state of mind to get more serious about it all. Some days I just feel more motivated than others. I’m hoping that one day I’ll get extra motivated.”
