He’s not a complainer; he’s a community helper

William Chow at Jenkins Park

“I can’t say that I’ve had many bad things happen in my life. I’ve always been a blessed person. Because of that, I try to give back to the community as much as I can. My parents instilled it in me, so I want to teach my kids that, too.

“I really believe the Lord helps those who help themselves. I don’t feel we should expect the government to solve all of our problems. I think it’s more our obligation to help mankind.

“It bothers me when I see people on the internet complaining all of the time. Complaining while not doing anything isn’t the way to go. If you feel so strongly about something, why not pick a project and spend the weekend helping someone? There are plenty of things you can do to help.”

William joined his church members to serve Thanksgiving dinner at Bay Area Homeless Shelter. In August he made several trips to his native Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to help families who lost their homes due to the major flood event.
