Boston Terrier sad after losing special friend
“My son, Logan, got Lucy as a pup so she could be best friends with his beautiful boxer, Bailey. And they were inseparable. Like if there was a rug and Bailey laid down, then Lucy curled up right next to her. In all of my photos, they’re always together.
“Well, Logan recently moved to Jamaica to work for Sandals and run their golf course at Ocho Rios. He couldn’t take the dogs with him, so Lucy and Bailey moved in with me. But before he left, we took the dogs to the vet. They got their rabies shots, we made sure about heart worms, and they got another set of shots because of the flu that’s been going around. We thought they got a clean bill of health.
“But last week, Bailey got suddenly ill. I thought it was an upset stomach. She was fine on Sunday, but she didn’t eat on Monday. She was lethargic by Tuesday morning and had severe diarrhea. So I called the veterinarian and took her in. They said it was a burst tumor.
“I was trying to call my son, but he didn’t have Internet set up yet and he didn’t have a new phone. The vet was amazing. She went to her office, looked up Sandals at Ocho Rios, and then called and asked for the golf course. It was a heart-breaking decision for my son to make, especially on the phone all the way from Jamaica.
“Before all of this happened, Lucy had never spent one day of her life without Bailey. So now I’m trying to make a new life for her. She’s a very good dog. But she ran away three times this week. She pushed her way out of my fence. We thought we had it fixed, but she digs just enough under it to get through. Fortunately, someone on my street found her and brought her back to me each time.
“I think Lucy misses Bailey terribly. I think that’s why she tries to get out. She’s looking for Bailey. They were such good friends. So we’re just trying to help Lucy not be so sad, because she is very sad.”
