This guy was born to play the guitar

“I grew up in a house full of guitars. I was around music constantly. Either the radio was on or someone was playing guitar. After hearing bands like Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam and Nirvana, I knew I wanted to play guitar as well.

“I started on a violin in junior high. I got into trouble quite often for playing it like a guitar. I would hold it in my lap and use a guitar pick. But I just knew that playing music was what I was supposed to do, even before I could do it.

“Once I was old enough to get my own guitar, playing came natural. I think all those years of being around music made it click in my head. I’m sure playing violin helped as well.

“I started my first band with some neighborhood friends when I was 15. It was a death metal band called Nuclear Winter. But things didn’t work out due to musical differences. I learned that I was more of a blues-rock guitarist. I enjoyed playing the music I grew up listening to and writing stuff like it.

“When I was 16, my dad took me to a local bar. He asked the band if I could sit in with them on a few songs. That was my first experience on a real stage in front of a crowd. I played ‘Hey Joe’ by Jimi Hendrix and an instrumental version of ‘Yellow Ledbetter’ by Pearl Jam. By the time I walked off the stage, I knew that was what I would be doing for the rest of my life.”
