Woman carpenter proves she can do the job

“My husband and I are heavy industrial carpenters. We travel for work. We’re kind of like gypsies. We sold our house and got a fifth wheel. Our kids are scattered now, so we have nothing to tie us down. We just decided to travel the country, one job at a time.

“It’s much easier now that we’re not going from motel room to motel room. I don’t have to pack everything every time we go. I just have to take a few things off the wall and put the TV on the bed so it doesn’t fly out the window.

“Being a woman in what’s typically considered a man’s field of work has its challenges. I have to prove myself. I’ve heard the snickering and stuff when I come on the job. But they won’t be laughing at the end of the day because I’m going to hang in there with everyone else. I will push myself.

“There are days I’ve come home, just wore the slap out. But I’m going to keep going. I’m going to prove that I can do the job. I’m not going to give them any reason to doubt me or talk about me behind my back. I’m going to have the necessary tools to do the job. And I’m going to work just as hard as anybody out there.”
