Second time around, they have an ‘instant family’

“We met 10 years ago at a mutual friend’s birthday party. The friend’s wife came over and said, ‘I’ve got somebody I’d like you to meet.’ So we visited a little. The next day, a Sunday, we talked for an hour on the phone. Then we had dinner together on Wednesday evening. Within a year, she and I were married.”

“I think we’re pretty compatible. You know, every marriage is a give and take. You’ve got to pick your battles and you’ve got to understand each other. It was hard for me at first because I had been single for 15 years, and I had already made my little women tribe. But it’s worked out well.”

“I think it was fortunate that neither of us had any kids at home. They were all on their own and self-sufficient by the time we got married. That made things a bit easier for both of us. And the nice thing is, they all get along great. I’ve got two daughters, and they each have two kids. And she’s got two sons, and they have seven altogether. So we have 11 grandkids. When we got together, it was an instant family.”
