Her son stays strong while battling colon cancer

“My biggest challenge right now is trying to get through the days with my son, and trying not to worry about how it will be when he’s gone.

“I have three boys. The oldest one is Dallas Arabie Jr., and he has terminal cancer. He has colon cancer, and now it’s all over him. He weighs less than 100 pounds. But he is so strong. He is 56 years old. He gets up every day and works around his house. He does his yard. He just keeps going.

“I go over there every day. And when I start getting teary-eyed, he puts me to work. He makes me clean the flower bed. He made me re-do his wicker furniture the other day. He says the best thing for that bad mood is work. He’s always been a workaholic. But he had to retire because of his cancer. He doesn’t have a whole lot longer. I want to spend as much time with him as I can.

“He has a very positive attitude. When he went to the doctor last week, his blood work came out pretty good. So he said, ‘I just might beat this cancer.’ Then the doctor said, ‘No, Dallas. All we’re doing now is buying you time.’ My son said, ‘Well, I can hope, though.’ And the doctor said, ‘Yes, you can hope.’ And that’s what he does. He’s so strong. I didn’t know my son was as strong as he is. It amazes me.”
