She enjoys writing from a comic perspective
“I write short fiction and have some stuff published, but I’m not the next Hemingway.
“I’ve written a lot about reality TV, how it both reflects us and sort of sets a course for us. Early on I was looking at that shift to confessionalism, like ‘The Jerry Springer Show,’ and how different people respond to that. I’d take a character like a Marxist feminist deconstructionist theorist, put them on ‘The Bachelorette’ and write about their whole attempt to subvert things. It’s satire, looking at what this is saying about us as a culture.
“I also like to do standup comedy, so I always write from that comic perspective.”
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
“No, I think that’s enough. Everything else would be confessional, and then I’d have to write a critique on myself … a meta-analysis.”
