Proud of their energy-efficient Scooby-Doo van
“Through a class at our school, we were involved in the Shell Eco-marathon. It’s a big competition where teams design, build and test energy-efficient vehicles. We worked on a 1960 VW bus that looked like the Scooby-Doo van. It actually had a Scooby-Doo and Shaggy sticker on the back window. We called it the rattletrap. When you drove it down the road it just rattled so bad because there was no suspension. It was pretty shaky.
“We towed it up to Detroit in a U-Haul, but we didn’t make it onto the track for the finals because our motor blew up the day before. But it was a cool experience. We learned a lot.”
