His ‘Texas mom’ was always there for him

Roberto Carrasco with his “Texas mom,” Lupe Carrasco. About three weeks after her death, her son, Anthony, died of alcohol poisoning.

“When I moved down here, I began staying with my aunt, who is my dad’s sister. She took me in as part of her family. She adopted me to her heart. She really became my mom. She would do anything for me.

“In May 2012, she was diagnosed with colon cancer. When she was going through chemo and everything, she would come home tired and sad sometimes but she tried to hide that from us. She didn’t want us to worry about her.

“She passed away last October. I was coming back from a trip to Disney World when I found out. She wanted me to go on that trip with my friends because she knew it had been a longtime dream of mine. Before I left, I was being corny with my mom and told her I was going to ask Tinker Bell to give me some pixie dust for her so that she would be able to fly to heaven safely.

“When I found out she had died, I started crying and couldn’t stop. She was always there for me. She was the sweetest person. The biggest wish I ever had was to have a mom who loved me and cared about me, and now she was gone.”
