Opportunity knocks, and she is quick to answer

Shirley Barron’s family has been selling fresh fruit and vegetables for more than 20 years.

“Oh, I’ve been through a lot. One of the biggest things is just being a female in the working industry, especially the plant life.

“I’m a supervisor, but it took me a little longer to get there than anyone else. That’s just how it is in the world. But I’ve made it and I have a lot of guys behind me to say, ‘She knows what she’s doing. She does her job well. Let’s see her through.’ And I appreciate that support. I’ve been given a lot of opportunities, and I take everything that I’m given and run with it.

“I’d like to own my own business one day. Even if it’s doing something like this, having my own little stand down the road when I’m tired of doing the plant life. I’m pretty good at it, so maybe one day I’ll help keep the family tradition alive.”
