They manage with recliner church, dominoes, family
“Woody and I are at the stay-at-home-and-don’t-panic stage of life. Our kids do not want us to go out because of our age.
“We realize we have been given a gift from God. It’s the gift of years. He will be 90 in May, and I will be 94 in July.
“We are the generation that lived through the Great Depression, polio, World War II, and the New York City towers coming down. Now everything has shut down because of a virus. I would have thought the world would be coming to an end before all sports events were canceled and church services were online.
“I had to text my pastor that I was going to join his new church, Recliner Baptist. I have attended every service in my recliner with chocolate chip cookies and milk by my side. As soon as it’s over, I read the papers and take a nap. One Sunday I even attended in my gown. Since our son put in a giant TV screen, I almost felt as though I was sitting on the front row, so I put on my robe.
“We are being cared for by our four children. We get phone calls from our six grandkids and wee pictures of our great-grandchildren. And our Sheltie is always on guard.
“We play dominoes to keep our brains alive. We call it the virus tournament.
“And we phone every old friend we have a number for to tell them that we love them.”
